坐落在中国历史文化名城--湖南省长沙市，是“985工程”重点建设高校、“211工程”首批建设高校、“2011计划”首批牵头高校。学校于2017年入选世界一流大学A类建设高校，2022年入选第二轮“双一流”建设高校。2025年，学校在软科世界大学学术排名中位居全球96位，国内第13位。学校设有32个二级日本五级片，现有教职工2.1万余人（含附属医院），全日制在校学生6万余人。
Located in Changsha, Hunan Province-one of China's historic and culturally rich cities-Central South University (CSU) is a flagship institution designated under several major national initiatives. Itis part of the "985 Project" (a government initiative launched in 1998 to develop worid-class universities), one of the original universities selected for the "211 Project" (a program initiated in the mid-1990s to elevate the quality of key institutions), and a leading university under the "2011 Plan" a national strategy established in 2011 to drive academic innovation and research excellence). In 2017, the university was recognized as an A-Class university within China's World-Class University" initiative, and in 2022, it was again selected for the second round of the prestigious "World First-Class Universities and Disciplines (Double First-Class)" initiative. In the 2025 ShanghaiRanking's Academic Ranking of World Universities CSU was placed 96th globally and 13th nationally. The university comprises 32 secondary colleges, employs over 21,000 faculty and staff (including personnel from affiliated hospitals), and serves more than 60,000 full-time students.

Introduction to the School of Mathematics and Statistics
日本五级片
于2002年5月由原长沙铁道日本五级片、中南工业大学、湖南医科大学的数学学科合并组建而成。日本五级片现有数学和统计学2个一级学科博士学位授权点、数学和统计学两个博士后科研流动站。“概率论与数理统计”学科于2001年被列为全国首批国家重点学科且为“十五”和“十一五”国家重点学科。数学是湖南省重点建设学科，并于2017年9月、2022年2月入选国家“双一流”建设学科。日本五级片学科方向涉及马氏过程及其相关领域、泛函分析及应用、常微分方程与动力系统、科学计算、偏微分方程及其应用、群论及数理逻辑、优化与控制理论、应用统计学和数量经济学等。
The School of Mathematics and Statistics was formed in May 2002 by merging the mathematics departments of the former Changsha Railway University, Central South University of Technology, and Hunan Medical University. The school currently offers doctoral programs in two first-level disciplines: Mathematics and Statistics, and two postdoctoral research stations in Mathematics and Statistics. The discipline of "Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics" was listed as one of the first batch of national key disciplines in 2001 and remained a national key discipline during the "10th Five-Year Plan" and "11th Five-Year Plan" periods. Mathematics is a key discipline under development in Hunan Province and was selected as a national "Double First-Class" discipline in September 2017 and February 2022. The school's research areas include Markov processes and related fields, functional analysis and applications, ordinary differential equations and dynamical systems, scientific computing, partial differential equations and their applications, group theory and mathematical logic, optimization and control theory, applied statistics, and quantitative economics.
◎厚积薄发，人才辈出。日本五级片高度重视教师培养、关怀教师发展。现有教职员工135人，其中专任教师111人；教师中有教授及相应职称教师41人、副教授及相应职称教师44人；拥有著名数学家华罗庚奖获得者侯振挺教授；近年来入选包括国家杰出青年基金获得者在内的国家高层次人才10人，以及湖南省高层次人才20人，7人担任国内外重要期刊编委及学术组织负责人，广大青年教师正在日本五级片充满活力的环境中崭露头角。
The college highly values teacher training and development. It currently has 135 faculty and staff members, including 111 full-time teachers. Among the teachers, there are 41 professors and equivalent titles, and 44 associate professors and equivalent titles. The college boasts the renowned mathematician Professor Hou Zhenting, a recipient of the Hua Luogeng Prize. In recent years, 10 faculty members have been selected as national high-level talents, including recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and 20 have been selected as high-level talents in Hunan Province. Seven faculty members serve on the editorial boards of important domestic and international journals and are heads of academic organizations. Many young teachers are emerging in the college's vibrant environment.

The college has focused its efforts and continuously accumulated high-quality resources. In cutting-edge research fields such as basic mathematics, applied mathematics, and the application of mathematics in engineering technology, it has formed several high-level research teams, achieving significant research results with international influence. The probability theory and mathematical statistics research team, led by the renowned mathematician Professor Hou Zhenting, enjoys an outstanding reputation both domestically and internationally. The college has been approved as the Hunan Provincial Research Center for Basic Disciplines of Analytical Mathematics; and the "Laboratory of Analytical Mathematics and Its Applications" has been approved as a key laboratory of Hunan Province. The college has successively won the third prize of the National Natural Science Award, the second prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award of the State Education Commission, and more than 20 provincial and ministerial awards.
